View this email in your browser Tara-Leeway Heights News January 2016 Welcome to the second edition of the Tara-Leeway Heights Civic Association e-newsletter! We are going digital a few times per year to get more information out to our neighborhood. Please share this newsletter with neighbors so we can update our email and membership lists. - The TLHCA Board Civic Association Updates Community Meeting on February 16 - Resurrection Lutheran TLHCA is holding a community meeting on Feb. 16th at 7:00 pm at Resurrection Lutheran to discuss several Arlington events and initiatives. The agenda will include: Arlington's Community Facilities - Ginger Brown, Co-Chair of the recent Community Facilities Study, will be on hand to provide an update on the study and the next steps. Public Safety Update - Corporal Beth Lennon will provide an update on recent police and public safety issues in the neighborhood. Neighborhood Conservation Improvements - Hear an update on the County's process and share ideas for needed improvements. Virginia Hospital Center Status - Our liaison will provide a brief update on the expansion plans and process. Other Neighborhood Issues - Are there other issues you'd like to discuss? Civic Association board members will be available to answer questions and provide updates on other activities and neighborhood issues. Ideas for Neighborhood Improvements? TLHCA will be recommending our next neighborhood conservation improvement project this spring. Examples of past projects include the Big Walnut Park improvements and the ongoing (almost complete) improvements along Patrick Henry Drive. Do you have an idea for a new project in the Tara-Leeway Heights neighborhood? If so, send us your idea or attend one of our upcoming board or community meetings. Thank you to all of those who have paid dues to the TLHCA for the 2015-2016 year. This year's membership has been below prior years so our income has declined as a result. We use these dues to support neighborhood social events, community meetings, and communication, so please support our efforts! Dues are $10.00 per year. Upcoming Events January 27 - VDOT meeting on Route 66 February 6 - Lee Highway Design Presentation February 16 - TLHCA Community Meeting March 15 - TLHCA Board Meeting April 19 - TLHCA Board Meeting May 17 - Community Meeting and TLHCA Board Elections Community News and Events Toll Lanes are Coming to Route 66 VDOT is holding a series of community input meetings to provide opportunities for the public to: Learn how the dynamically-priced toll lanes will operate on I-66 Inside the Beltway Review proposed locations and design of toll gantries and pricing signs View displays and discuss your questions with VDOT staff Attend the formal presentation, followed by a public comment period Submit oral and/or written comments Several of these meetings were cancelled due to the snow this week, but the next is scheduled for Thursday January 27th, 8:00 pm at Washington Lee HS. For more information see http://inside.transform66.org/meetings/default.asp Virginia Hospital Center Expansion In December, the County approved an agreement that will grant Virginia Hospital Center an option to purchase the County-owned land north of the hospital. Presentations on conceptual ideas for the expansion are expected over the next several months. The County's design consultants will present the results of the charrette on Saturday, February 6, Yorktown High School, 10 am to 1 pm. Upcoming Events See the Tara-Leeway Heights website more information on these events soon: Oct. 31 - Halloween Party with Greater Westover Group civic associations Nov. 17 - TLHCA Board Meeting Virginia Hospital Center Expansion The Arlington County Board has approved a non-binding letter of intent with Virginia Hospital Center to sell 5 acres of land north of the hospital (the Edison Complex) to VHC for potential future expansion. The TLHCA will participate in a task force in coming months and years to work with the hospital on plans for the expansion. See the County's news release for more information on the potential sale.  Patrick Henry Improvements Construction has begun on the Tara-Leeway Heights Neighborhood Conservation improvement along Patrick Henry Drive. This improvement, which involves making three intersections more pedestrian friendly, mitigating storm water runoff and attempts to reduce speeding especially at 18 St N., was approved by the County Board in 2011. All affected residents have been provided contact information regarding the project. See the County's website for information on the Neighborhood Conservation Program. Our civic association recently joined forces with three other neighborhoods to form the Greater Westover Group. Together we will collaborate on important county issues and hold joint social events such as our September Ice Cream Social.
